Our heritage

Safeguarding children and young people is our highest priority. Our policy is embedded in our everyday practice and overseen by a Designated Safeguarding Lead.  A member of the Governing Body is tasked with ensuring the school complies with, and wherever possible exceeds, the regulatory framework Keeping Children Safe in Education.   As a team we work together and in close partnership with a wide range of professionals and agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of every child and young person.  Safeguarding is everyone’s business.

We know deaf children and young people are just as bright and brilliant as their non-deaf peers.  Promoting a positive sense of self, emotional resilience, independence and confidence is at the heart of our everyday practice.
Ambition
Deaf children and young people have the right to the very best education.  We strive to deliver a broad and balanced national curriculum capable of giving children and young people the best life choices.  Reflecting on how we teach as well as what we teach helps us realise a consistently good quality of education.
Know what? Know-how!
Ensuring all children and young people leave with both the know-what and the know- how to take their next steps into further education, employment or training.  We deliver a wide range of curricula including driving theory, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and hands-on experiences in natural settings that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking inspired by the Forest School’s approach
Inclusive
We are a speaking and signing community with a rich mix of cultures, languages and practice.  Written and spoken English and British Sign Language are key to ensuring all children and young people are confident, skilled users of both languages.
Collaboration
We work in collaboration with parents and carers, Local Authority placing partners, off campus providers, local and national business networks, universities and charities and to exploit opportunities to raise awareness and forge opportunities for our children and young people to thrive.
